The primary purpose of St. John’s Seminary is to prepare candidates for service as priests in the Roman Catholic Church. This preparation is carried out according to the prescriptions of the Church and the standards of the seminary’s accrediting agencies.
The principal focus of the seminary is the formation of candidates for the diocesan presbyterate within the United States, especially the Southwest, as well as preparing candidates from religious communities for the presbyterate. This focus also includes the secondary task of forming deacons, religious, and lay leaders.
