The Episcopal Divinity School is a seminary of the Episcopal Church based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Known throughout the Anglican Communion for prophetic teaching and action on issues of civil rights and social justice, it has been directly involved in many of the social controversies surrounding the Episcopal Church in the latter half of the 20th century and at the start of the 21st. While an Episcopal seminary, it also trains students from other denominations not seeking ordination in the Episcopal Church and has since 2011 had a relationship with the Metropolitan Community Church in which the latter’s candidates for ordination may train at the the Episcopal Divinity School and receive specific instruction on Metropolitan Community Church polity as part of their degree programs.
