Concordia Seminary serves church and world by providing theological education and leadership centered in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ for the formation of pastors, missionaries, and leaders in the name of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Concordia Seminary’s major function is to prepare men for the holy ministry of Word and Sacraments in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The Seminary also offers advanced degree programs to qualified students of theology and serves as a center for theological research, scholarship, and continuing education of the clergy.

Centered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we, at Concordia Seminary value:

Faithfulness to the Scriptures and Confessions – demonstrating the identity of the Seminary as both Lutheran and evangelical, concerned for both the pure and bold proclamation of Christ;

Servanthood to Christ and His church – defining the focus of our activities and the attitude with which we carry out these activities;

Responsiveness to the contemporary context of the world – embodying our attitude toward the church and the world; and

One Review

  1. Concordia (Saint Louis) is the flagship seminary of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, founded in the 1800’s. The other seminary is in Fort Wayne (IN) which is also an excellent seminary from what people tell me. (I graduated almost 10 years ago.) It has a long history of turning out capable, Gospel-led pastors. The pastoral formation is rigorous: practical, theological, spiritual. Greek and Hebrew. The MDIV is reserved for those going into Lutheran ministry, but other deonminational students can get master and other academic degrees there. There are also distance-learning options and excellent programs for Hispanic and ethnic pastors. I strongly recommend it and I think it should rate among the highest in the nation for the overall program.
