We are committed to the central doctrine of justification by grace alone, the article by
which the church either stands or falls. We further believe that the good news of God’s gracious salvation in Christ is clearly taught in God’s written Word, the Bible: its full inspiration and total truthfulness we confess, and to its authority we submit. This rich core of commitments forms the basis of our unity as a theological community centered in Jesus Christ.

We are a small community of faith, learning, and fellowship. Each Beeson student is a member of a faculty-led mentoring group that meets weekly. We worship together as a community every Tuesday during the semester, and afterwards share a meal in the Beeson Commons.

Our curriculum prepares students for the ministry of the Word. Beeson students are committed to serious biblical study—we emphasize Biblical Theology and the ability to preach and teach directly from the Hebrew and Greek scriptures. Beeson students commit to full-time study, rather than part-time or distance learning.

  1. For the cost, I don’t know of a better theological school from which to receive the M.Div degree. The faculty hold degrees from some of the most prestigious theological schools in the world (i.e., Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, St. Andrews, etc.). More important than their degrees, the faculty are leading researchers in their field of study with strong convictions to use their research for the betterment of Christ’s church. If you are looking for a low cost, community-centered, confessional, Christ-centered, ministry -focused, academic theological institution from which to receive the M.Div degree, then look no further.

  2. Put simply, there was no divinity school that I wanted to attend more than Beeson Divinity School. I will be graduating this December 2013 with a Master of Divinity degree and I still feel the same way. Beeson is a wonderful place: the best kept secret in theological education.

    STRENGTHS

    1. Financially Affordable
    2. Evangelically Ecumenical
    3. Diverse (ethnicity, gender, denomination)
    4. Balance Between Academic Rigor and Ministerial Training
    5. Highly Confessional
    6. Accomplished Faculty (eg. Timothy George, Frank Thielman, Ken Mathews, Allen Ross, Paul House, Robert Smith Jr.)
    7. Very Involved Faculty and Staff
    8. Small Classes (Beeson caps the student body at 180 students)
    9. Close Proximity to Urban Center
    10. Aesthetics of the Divinity School Campus and City
    11. Great Climate

    WEAKNESSES

Beeson’s weaknesses are the downsides of its strengths. Because Beeson places great emphasis on community life, it caps the student body at 180, resists online-education, and greatly prefers full-time students. Further, because it caps the student body, admission is competitive and there are not many degrees or tracks offered. However, none of these weaknesses affected me as I planned to be full-time and go to seminary in person.
